Hi Roj,

I don't have any such plans to port MAD to Sonique. Besides the fact I
never heard back from the Sonique folks about getting API details, I just
don't have the time any more. This doesn't mean someone else couldn't do
it, though.

While I'm thinking about it, two other developments may be of interest to
people here:

- I recently heard from someone who is working on a DirectShow filter for
MAD. I believe this will allow MAD to be used in apps like Windows Media
Player. According to the author, the core is almost finished.

- Niek Albers wrote me recently to tell me that regular CoolPlayer
releases based on MAD are now occurring. I was hoping Niek would have a
chance to make an announcement here himself, but in case not, you can find
the releases here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/coolplayer/

Cheers,

Thanks! I had JUST (as in the last ten minutes) found out about Coolplayer.
Is the version implemented there the latest version similar to that of the
latest Winamp plugin?

The MAD decoding engine used by both at this point is very stable and
essentially the same. There could be a slight difference in performance
due to the use of different compilers to build the code.

The things that change from release to release are usually the
higher-level features, interface, and mechanisms that use the lower-level
decoder library. This is where most of the improvements take place in
either implementation (CoolPlayer or Winamp plug-in).

The performance is not the issue for me - the clipping that was prevalent in
0.13 is. :)

Thanks much - I'm now a VERY happy guy.
